It is in this environment that I have grown up, one in which the heart of Jesus’ teachings, love, is demonstrated daily. I am ever grateful to my parents for having enrolled me there. But this love that I feel is not alone among the strengths of Hawaii Baptist Academy. Its strength is also in its challenging academics in which students are pressed to succeed. I don’t believe making cool sounds and grooves is very interesting any more, because we’ve had a couple of decades of that and there’s very little left to do. Leagues started drafting defensive players and jazzing up and adding nuance to their scoring rules. A silly, entertaining diversion quickly became a year-round obsession. In order to be competitive, you have to study the NFL as diligently as a real general manager. I’m not knocking the game. It’s no different from golf. If you want to be good, you have to be committed. I stink at fantasy football for the same reason I stink at golf. Well, that’s not completely true. I stink at golf because of my handicap (stomach).”

- www.kansascity.com | 08/23/2008 | Here’s some advice for your fantasy football team

"He hired John Madden at 32; Tom Flores, a Mexican-American, at 42; Mike Shanahan at 36; Art Shell,..."

“He hired John Madden at 32; Tom Flores, a Mexican-American, at 42; Mike Shanahan at 36; Art Shell, an African-American, at 43 and just seven years after his playing career ended; Jon Gruden at 35; and current Raiders coach Lane Kiffin at 32. Davis has been a trailblazer. OK, maybe proven coaches don’t want to work for Davis. But maybe proven coaches are overrated. Still remember the time I gave my whole family the creeping crud when I was about six or seven and we all were in bed with nothing to do but listen to the Atlanta Hawks. When Caray described a shot thusly: “Lou Hudson, 20-footer; shot it 19,” I thought he was a genius.
